What is Propane
Propane, along with gas, diesel, and natural gas are referred to as fossil fuels or hydrocarbons.
Meaning their chemical composition is a chain of hydrogen and carbon atoms. When exposed to oxygen and heat, the chemical reaction breaks the bonds between the atoms which releases energy as heat.
Combustion of propane creates carbon dioxide and water.
Dirty or less efficient furnaces also produce soot, carbon monoxide, and NOx (nitrogen oxide) and contribute to respiratory illnesses including asthma.

Propane requires crude oil or methane to be extracted from deep in the earth. Crude oil needs to be heated to high temperatures to separate out different compounds. This process is called fractional distillation.
